Thermal Insulation

Thermal insulation means creating a resistance to the flow of heat from hot side to the colder side of the insulated building roof or walls.

In most countries worldwide the building bye laws require a certain thermal insulation value to be met for different building elements like Roof, Walls etc. This is achieved by adding a layer of thermal insulating material like EPS or XPS to the building element. This improves the comfort level of the residents and also reduces electrical power consumption in air conditioning / cooling very substantially.

BENEFITS OF THERMAL INSULATION:-

1. If an insulating material layer of only 50mm (insulation value is 24 times that of brick bat coba or 30 times that of equivalent thickness mud phaska) is added to the roof then the insulation value of the total roof may go up by over 5 times. This increase in insulation value :

  • Minimizes heat loss from the interior in winter months, and
  • Minimizes heat gain from outside in the summer months

This will substantially improve resident comfort level and reduce air conditioning requirements thus lowering the capacity (tonnage) of airconditioner required as well as the operating power and maintenance costs.

Insulation is the single most cost-effective way to improve energy efficiency based on cost comparison per square foot. This is a totally passive system with no operation cost over the life of the building.

Governments are recognizing this with new energy efficiency legislation and national and international commitments.

Inadequate insulation and air leakage are leading causes of energy waste in most homes. Besides wasting energy these leakages are the cause of the uncomfortable hot or cold drafts.

By insulating a building or home , you

  • Save money (upto 40% of your AC power bill) and the nation's limited energy resources
  • Maintain a uniform, comfortable temperature throughout your interiors , throughout the year.

Kool Tile For Roof

Kool tiles are individually molded (from expandable polystyrene or EPS resin) roof insulation tiles with guarantee of product quality of every single piece so that the entire roof has an uniform insulation value.

These tiles are molded and not cut from an EPS block. Hence, each tile has got molded water repellent finish on both surfaces unlike the cut surfaces of sheets which may absorb some water through the cut surface porosities.

These Kool Tiles provide the "Leakage Proof" benefits of a double layer insulation provided by the interlocking joints of each tile to ensure water-tight joints of the tiles, thus giving the perfect sealing effect.

Most importantly these Kool Tiles provide tremendous savings in costs because these are made of eco friendly (HCFC/CFC free) EPS resin and are three to five times cheaper as compared to the other competing products with similar critical properties, like XPS or PUF.

In order to ensure total customer satisfaction in terms of guaranteed product quality and costs the manufacturer assures providing the entire customer servicing system from finalizing design requirements to the final product application.

Kool tile (roof) – benefits

  1. Significantly improved comfort level of the top floor as the roof is insulated against the blistering heat in summers.
  2. 40-50% Electricity saving in case air conditioner is used (40% saving in Delhi over one year & hence payback of insulation cost is <1year).
  3. No aging cracks in the water proofing of roof (even for bitumen based ones) and hence no seepage/ dampness after heavy rains.
  4. Protection of structure due to lifetime durability & reliability

Kool Tile (Wall)

Kool tile (wall) are Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) tiles which are meant for wall application. These tiles are meant for affixing outside the walls as a facade and have a suitably formed molded surface to act as a shuttering surface to hold on the final surface layer of plaster (stucco). These tiles have interlocking joints to ensure complete sealing and acts as a thermal envelope for the whole building and thus provide an Externally Insulated Finishing System (EIFS) with the following benefits:

  • provides an insulated weather-proof, durable architectural facade
  • helps conserves energy
  • helps reduce heat loss
  • helps control condensation
  • helps to eliminates thermal bridging
  • provides substantial reduction in sound transmission
  • suitable for both new constructions and old buildings
  • enables thermal management of buildings
  • improves internal comfort levels
  • maintains a dry, stable structure
  • reduces the risk of condensation
  • contributes to the reduction of CO² emissions
  • provides beneficial whole life costs
  • combines aesthetics with durability
  • reduces building maintenance

Cold Storage Wall Insulation

Cold Storage's are low temperature warehouses where substantial energy is used in form of electricity to reduce temperatures within the warehouse to significantly below the ambient temperature.

In case proper thermal insulation is not used then not only will there be substantial increase in electrical power consumption but also lead to product failure  due to localized insulation leakages and dew point formation within the cold storage walls. This localized insulation failure is a very dangerous phenomena as this could lead to structural damages to the cold storage building due to differential expansion/contraction of the building elements and its increased weakness due to water ingression inside.

The average cold storage owner focuses on the machinery and building part of the investment without giving due importance to the insulation part. In reality the insulation and its application part are as important as the refrigerant plant and building. The right quality of insulation and its appropriate application may actually reduce the investment in refrigeration equipment by reducing the refrigeration tonnage very substantially. Moreover correct insulation protects the building structure also.

The consultants and  engineers guiding the cold storage owners are either architects or civil engineers who have limited understanding of the insulation and its application. These days most of the insulation being used in the cold storage's are the cheapest available EPS sheets where the only quality criteria applicable is thought to be the weight of the 0.5 cubic meter  packet of  insulation.

We at RIPL recommend usage of Graphite enhanced EPS sheets which not only improve insulation value of the walls by 30% and is Flame retardant (B1 DIN EN 4102) but also one big advantage for the customer in this commotion market is non availability of the cheaper version of recycled EPS material (this in fact goes by the name CS grade an acronym  for cold storage) as the recycled EPS cannot be mixed with this Silver grey coloured material. While recycled material as such is not harmful in normal open applications where water vapors may pass through without damaging the insulation layers, in low temperature applications if by mistake / wrong design  dew point forms inside the insulation then there can be severe problems of insulation cracking and failure due to ice formation within the insulation.

We provide our cold storage customers with appropriate quality insulation depending on their application and temperature ranges. Our well trained team are also in a position to recommend / design the building elements layering and insulation application for long term cost benefit of the customer.

We attach herewith a downloadable insulation value graph which will automatically indicate the benefits of our recommendation of graphite enhanced EPS to a discerning cold storage owner/ builder/ consultant

Pipe Section

We manufacture and supply EPS or Graphite enhanced EPS based Pipe line insulation material suitable for insulating different diameter pipelines with a variety of standard insulation thicknesses in single or double layers as per requirement of the application.

These Pipe Sections in half round cylindrical shapes are ideal for cold and dual temperature (i.e. hot and cold) insulation of pipes in cold storages, refrigerant or cryogenic pipelines, hot water and process pipeline applications.

The main purpose of insulating pipelines is to prevent heat passage from hot fluid carrying pipes to the surrounding air or from the surrounding air to the cold fluid carrying pipe.

In pipings which carry fluids at a temperature lower than ambient, insulating the pipeline will prevent sweating ( due to condensation of air borne moisture on the cold pipe surface) of the pipe and consequent dripping and corrosion.

Insulating a pipeline will also have the additional benefit of subduing the noise made by the fluid flowing inside the pipe.
